Themes for a girl’s birthday

Princesses and fairies : play the game and prepare a pink tea party with a raspberry mousse cake and glasses of grenadine! All you need to do is put on a pair of wings and a pointy hat to become Godmother the Good Fairy for an afternoon (you can buy a variety of accessories for less than 7€ on Amazon). For your decoration, you can make small cardboard crowns, fairy wands or even pink and gold garlands to bring a touch of magic. Don’t forget the Ecocups ® in the theme!

Panda : a single watchword, black and white. Ask your little guests to come dressed in these colors, and plan some makeup to make them look like little pandas (I found you a black eye shadow and a white eye shadow at Cultura for 7€ each). On the decorative side, you can make crepe paper garlands in these same colors, place bamboo shoots  on the snack table (from €4 at  Gamm Vert ) and small stuffed animals (€7 at  Amazon ) with which the guests will leave .

Minnie  : buy headbands with mouse ears for your little guests (less than 3€ on mybbshowershop), and bet on a pink (or red), black and white decoration. For example, a red tablecloth with white polka dots, balloons, or even a homemade crepe paper curtain (easy to make, here is a little video tutorial to guide you) in the colors mentioned above. For afternoon tea, you can easily prepare small shortbread cookies in the shape of Minnie Mouse using cookie cutters (3-piece kit from €5 on Passion Cake Design).

Themes for a boy’s birthday

Knight  : build a cardboard castle for your decoration, and plan costumes for all the little guests. To decorate your table and the snack room, bet on silver elements such as balloons, cardboard shields covered with aluminum foil, or even a dragon piñata hanging from the ceiling, to be broken with a wooden sword to collect the surprises inside (€19 at  La Fée des Fêtes ).

Dinosaur : since children are fans,  recreate a Jurassic atmosphere with garlands of tropical leaves, a large T-rex balloon  or invitation cards in the shape of a dinosaur egg. You can also buy small dino cookie cutters so that even your cookies are in the theme , and offer a drawing activity “invent the most terrible dinosaur!”.

Pirate :  a parchment as an invitation card, a table decoration with skulls, gold coins and a beautiful pirate ship,  without forgetting the pirate ecocups , that’s the base! Plan a range of disguises for each child , and organize a big treasure hunt that will allow the little ones to go home with their pockets full of chocolate coins and lots of candies.

Mixed themes for a birthday

Animals  : from the jungle, the savannah, the farm, even from Noah’s Ark if you want to cast a wide net. For invitations, buy a few postcards with animals, and you’re done. Use your child’s stuffed animals and toys to scatter them around your home, and make paper origami to complete the decor. Provide masks for the little ones to put themselves in the shoes of their favorite animal, you can even print blank ones for them to personalize!

Robots : decorate the room with blue, silver and red balloons, with a robot made of cardboard and aluminum foil or a metallic “Happy birthday” garland. For your table you can make shortbread cookies in the shape of a robot with a square cookie cutter and a little marzipan, and for the general atmosphere move and talk jerkily like a robot!

Indians : for your decoration plan colorful feathers to scatter on your snack table or to hang together to make a garland, customize a cardboard to make a totem (the Head to model site explains how to do it). In terms of activities,  you can organize the game “pin the bison’s tail” where the goal is to pin the tail of a bison in the right place on a poster while blindfolded, or even plan a make-up workshop to create paintings of war on your little guests.
